Chapter 755 - 726: Love Across Parallel Worlds [048]
Unlike his usual habit of sending a video call after showering, Simon Forrester sent a video invite as soon as he entered the elevator today. As soon as the video connected, his first words were, "Are you okay?"
Sienna, with reddened eyes, was more concerned about whether Quentin Thorne had made things difficult for Simon Forrester than venting about her own dilemmas: "Did my dad say anything to you?"
Simon Forrester smiled and said, "Today was too rushed. Next time, I’ll find time for a formal visit and have a good chat with him."
So it seems tonight was very unpleasant...
Having been Quentin Thorne’s daughter for over twenty years, Sienna understood his ways well. The more Simon Forrester persisted, the harsher and more direct Quentin Thorne would become.
She felt both upset and apologetic, her eyes reddened, sniffing as she pitifully said through the video, "I’m sorry. If I had told my parents about us earlier, today wouldn’t have been so awkward."
Simon Forrester smiled, gently rubbing her reddened eyes on the screen with his thumb, "It’s okay, it’s not awkward. It’s just like this."
"Did my dad really say nothing to you?"
"No, I left quickly, he didn’t say much."
Quentin Thorne mentioned that the Thorne Family wanted a live-in son-in-law who was a public official in the judicial system. Hearing this, Simon knew it was said to drive him away intentionally, so he didn’t take it to heart nor wanted to mention it to affect Sienna’s father-daughter relationship with Quentin Thorne.
He was quite confident in his own position and strengths, not easily deterred by a few words from Quentin Thorne.
With a "ding," the elevator arrived.
Simon Forrester walked out of the elevator with his phone, opening his door while saying, "You haven’t rested well these past days. Rest early tonight, and I’ll take you out for dinner tomorrow."
On the other end of the video, Sienna had a tearful face, "I might not be able to go out. My dad said he wants to talk to me tomorrow."
"Then call me after the talk."
"Okay."
After ending the video, Sienna tossed and turned until midnight before falling into a hazy sleep.
In her dreams, it seemed as if Simon Forrester was sleeping right beside her, holding her gently as his even breathing lulled her to sleep.
...
The next day, right after lunch, Sienna was called into the study by the stern-faced Quentin Thorne.
Quentin Thorne first scolded her for lying and deceiving her parents, making her cry, then he switched to comforting her, listing the benefits of marrying someone from the same system with a background for her career.
If not for her relationship with Simon Forrester, Sienna might have accepted her father’s arrangements and sought an equally matched man, but now, she was passionately in love with Simon Forrester, and no matter how much Quentin Thorne tried to persuade her all afternoon until he was hoarse, she couldn’t be swayed.
Having experienced Simon Forrester, she couldn’t consider any other man.
After Quentin Thorne’s failed attempt, after dinner, Melinda Linton took her turn to reason with Sienna, who was fed up and simply pulled the quilt over her head, refusing to communicate.
The initial guilt towards her parents after the truth was revealed had, under their continuous pressure for a day, turned into determination.
Before bed, Simon Forrester called her to report on spending the day with the elderly at the old family house and that he had just returned home, showered, and was ready to rest.
She immediately sent him a video invite.
In the video, Simon Forrester looked just the same as during that night in South Bay, wearing a white short-sleeved T-shirt, his freshly washed, shiny, fluffy black hair naturally falling over his forehead, his slightly curved eyes smiling at her.
She subconsciously said, "I’m so worried, how can you be so happy?" Then she realized she spoke too much and immediately bit her tongue to stop talking.
"Seeing you makes me feel happy, so I can’t help but smile," Simon Forrester said, looking steadily at her, "In three weeks, it’ll be the New Year. I’ll come to your house for the celebrations and talk to your parents about us, trying to settle it in one go. You don’t have to worry."
"They..."
Sienna found it difficult to say.
But Simon Forrester actually understood it all.
Quentin Thorne had already made it clear last night.
Simon Forrester comforted her, "It’s okay, trust me, I have a way."
Sienna wanted to ask him how, but she was concerned about putting too much pressure on him, so she didn’t ask, and the topic just slid away naturally.
The two of them then discussed meeting up in the future.
Quentin Thorne currently opposed fiercely, though he hadn’t confined Sienna, if she were to go out for a whole day like before on weekends, she would likely be scolded when she returned.
Thinking of coming back to a scolding, who would be in the mood for a date?
The two of them discussed and decided that before Simon Forrester officially visited the Thorne Family, they would keep a low profile, meeting up for lunch instead of dating on weekends and evenings, saving Sienna from a difficult situation.
That night, they stayed on the video call until midnight, and if it weren’t for having to work the next day, they could have chatted till dawn.
Due to Quentin Thorne’s opposition, Sienna had become more emotionally dependent on Simon Forrester without realizing it. The moment the video ended, she was already looking forward to their lunch date the next day.
She had an hour’s break from 12 to 1 p.m. for lunch; Simon Forrester would leave the design office at 11, bringing lunch, and they would spend half an hour eating and could continue to cozy up for another half hour.
Though Sienna’s office was small and the couch cramped, love made everything bearable, and Simon Forrester, usually so demanding of his environment, seemed quite content.
In the evening, Simon Forrester would pick Sienna up from work at five, drop her off home, then return to cook and eat himself. After showering and finishing by nine, they would video chat till midnight.
When he needed to deal with work, he would leave the video on, chatting with Sienna while doing his tasks. Sienna wasn’t a noisy person; she usually just quietly accompanied him, a feeling he quite liked.
He went from being someone who couldn’t be disturbed while working, didn’t talk during meals, and never reported his whereabouts, to working with the video on, chatting while eating, and updating his girlfriend on his movements daily.
In the two months of dating, he clearly felt that many habits had changed because of Sienna, and frighteningly, he didn’t dislike these changes. In fact, he quite enjoyed them.
Love truly makes people dizzy.
...
The weekend after New Year’s Day, Maeve returned from out of town and personally visited South Bay. After checking out the plot of land, she returned to discuss it with Sienna.
Maeve herself also really liked the plot. The agent said that if she didn’t act, someone would buy the entire area to develop it into a resort center. Gritting her teeth, she was ready to partner up with a wealthy admirer to buy the plot together.
When Sienna heard Maeve’s admirer had been pursuing her for a long time, she was alarmed at the possibility of Maeve getting deceived emotionally due to their partnership, and she urged Maeve to decline the offer, saying she would find a way to cover the two million funding gap herself.
