Chapter 18 Odin, the Patron Saint
Without needing to say more, Chu Zihang knew that Gao Kui must have fallen ill again. Not long ago, Gao Kui had fallen ill once, so it was not surprising that he had fallen ill again now.
But Chu Zihang had no time to care about Gao Kui's condition. His father was about to die in front of him, so how could he care about what a friend was thinking?
Emmanuel was also happy to be left undisturbed by Chu Zihang, and said with a smile, "No need for assumptions, Odin really is the patron saint who serves my father."
"what?"
Gao Kui was slightly taken aback. What the heck? When did the chief god of Norse mythology become the patron saint of Christianity?
Chu Tianjiao was about to die in battle, and Gao Kui and Chu Zihang were about to fall as well. At this moment, Gao Kui was most concerned about the fact that Odin was the patron saint of Christianity.
Mentally ill patients exhibit symptoms such as racing thoughts and inattentiveness.
Seeing Gao Kui's curiosity, Emmanuel stopped paying attention to the battle and explained to Gao Kui in a gentle tone.
No man is an island, entire of itself.
Every individual is a part of the continent, a part of the whole.
Emmanuel first recited a line from a poem by the English poet John Donne, and then continued: "From a secular point of view, God and pantheons are the same."
Over a long period of time, various religions and theologians around the world have been merging and absorbing each other, transforming themselves to adapt to secular needs and the new world.
The same applies to those who believe in the Christianity of my Father and me.
Before Christianity spread to Northern Europe, the people of the Norse states worshipped Odin. The Norse mythology of that time was not merely mythology, but a system of beliefs.
After the name of My Father and Myself spread to the Nordic countries, the local Nordic religious system was quickly defeated and lost the vast majority of its believers.
The indigenous belief system with Odin as its main god has been reduced from a belief and sect to a myth, and the one responsible for holding the funeral for this mythological system is still my follower Snowry.
Odin was also relegated to the status of a patron saint of Norse Christianity.
Oh, Gao Kui suddenly realized.
It's normal for pantheons to merge, absorb, and sometimes even criticize each other's gods. In India, Hinduism and Buddhism clash; in Japan, Shinto and Buddhism coexist; and in China, Buddhism and Taoism clash.
In short, the idea that "your god is my god's little brother" sounds like two children arguing about "no matter what you say, I'm better than you," which is childish.
But the followers of Emmanuel were more ruthless than all the above sects. They first destroyed all the belief systems in Europe, and then absorbed and downgraded them.
Because Christianity is a monotheistic religion, Odin, the chief god of Norse mythology, can only serve as a patron saint.
From a mythological perspective, Odin remains the chief god of the Norse mythology. However, from a religious perspective, Odin is a patron saint of Christianity.
Is there a difference between the two?
Have.
Myths are the remnants of faith and religion.
Myths are false, but faith is real. At least in the eyes of more than two billion believers worldwide, Emmanuel, He, is a real person.
Since He truly exists, Odin is naturally just the patron saint.
"Then you should make him stop immediately."
Gao Kui pointed at Odin, who was stabbing Chu Tianjiao wildly: "If you calculate it this way, Odin is also your little brother. He can't disobey what you, the big boss, say, right?"
I'm not asking Odin to commit seppuku or anything like that; I just want him to obediently stop and send the three of us away.
During his conversation with Immanuel, Gao Kui unknowingly came to believe that the other person was indeed Immanuel.
This is also a typical characteristic of schizophrenia patients, who always confuse reality with fantasy.
"Sorry, I can't. He's not the real Odin."
Emmanuel shook his head: "Besides, even if I could do it, why would I do it? Omniscience and omnipotence mean that I can do everything within and outside the scope of mortal logic."
"Being able to do it doesn't mean I actually want to do it."
"Hold!"
Gao Kui suddenly started tearing at his hair, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. Even though he knew the other person was just an illusion, he still treated him as the real Emmanuel.
"But you can save him, and that's your responsibility too."
Emmanuel then changed the subject, reprimanding Gao Kui: "If you hadn't been thinking such nonsense, none of this would have happened today. I had everything arranged for you."
The Promised Land, milk and honey, all the authority in heaven and on earth—I have prepared it all for you. Just follow the script I have written for you, and you will reap it all.
But you just didn't take your medicine today!
You created this trouble yourself, so you should clean it up yourself. You can do it. Haven't you believed in me countless times?
Why not believe again?
Trust me, and I'll show you how to clean up the mess you created.
"If I were you, I would immediately adjust the world line, erase Odin's existence from the world line, or adjust the spacing between the quarks that make up Odin's body, increasing them tenfold."
Gao Kui cursed viciously; this was the coolest, most pretentious, and most high-class attack method he could think of right now.
After all, that's Emmanuel, the Trinity with the All-Knowing, All-Powerful, Self-Existent, and Eternal. To possess such authority, one must be capable of something big.
Like a teacher encountering a stubborn and incorrigible student, Emmanuel shook his head helplessly: "I still maintain that just because something can be done doesn't mean it has to be done that way."
That was my father's way of doing things, not mine. My father and I are ultimately different.
Think about it again; his time is running out. Let me remind you, if you can't clean up the mess you've made, Chu Tianjiao will die, but you won't.
After saying this, Emmanuel disappeared just as he had come, and the "Hymn of Emmanuel's Coming" rang out again, as if urging Gao Kui to make a decision.
What are you doing!
"Riddler, get out of Gotham City!"
Gao Kui was almost driven mad. It was happening again and again, spouting all sorts of useless nonsense. But thinking about it, it was normal, since he wasn't the real Emmanuel.
He was just an illusion.
But this illusion is Gao Kui's only lifeline at the moment.
As a hybrid, he hadn't even left the starting village yet. Chu Tianjiao was a legendary hero, and Odin was the final boss, the Demon King, or at least one of the Four Heavenly Kings under the Demon King's command.
Now that the legendary hero is about to be killed by the big boss, if this little Karami wants to save Chu Tianjiao, he can only place his hopes on a vague fantasy.
Unleash your overpowered power!
"What should I do if I were the real Emmanuel?"
"What should I do if I were the real Emmanuel?"
Gao Kui held his head in his hands, truly concentrating all his energy on thinking about this problem. He felt like his brain was about to explode, and his whole body felt like countless ants were crawling on it, making him increasingly agitated.
From Chu Zihang's perspective, Gao Kui's condition was already very serious at this moment. First, he experienced auditory and visual hallucinations, and then he confused reality with illusions and believed the things in the hallucinations, and began to mutter softly.
Chapter 19 The New Contract of Reverse Training
Gao Kui was now thinking desperately.
Provided he can concentrate, Gao Kui's intelligence is definitely not a problem; the only issue is that he can never maintain focus.
Gao Kui focused on Emmanuel's statement, "I am not my Father."
He felt he had grasped something.
Emmanuel is indeed very different from Him.
Immanuel is the Son of God, possessing both full humanity and full divinity, and is the mediator between humanity and Him. As the "Son" of the Trinity, His conduct is distinctly different from that of the "Father," Jehovah.
From a secular, non-believer's perspective, the God in the Old Testament is extremely narrow-minded, terrifying, and brutal, and is highly controversial.
His actions were indeed for a reason.
The great flood was caused by the rampant sins of mankind; Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because the city's inhabitants were so promiscuous that they could not find even ten righteous men; and the Canaanites were exterminated to prevent their faith from being corrupted.
Despite the various explanations offered by religious circles to prove his correctness and justice, all of these factors still give the impression that he was harsh and cruel.
This is only one aspect. On the other hand, His grace and mercy in the Old Testament are limited to the ancient Israelites, a point I will not elaborate on further.
In short, the idea that He is omniscient, omnipotent, self-existent, and eternal does not give people a good feeling.
He is the Holy Father, and also the Strict Father.
In contrast to Him is Emmanuel, the Son of the Trinity. Emmanuel reformed the doctrines of the revealed religion, extending His grace to all people, not just the ancient Jews.
On the other hand, Emmanuel, who possessed complete humanity, was gentler in his manner than Him.
Human sin was rampant, and His solution was to send down a great flood. Emmanuel, on the other hand, willingly gave his life, bearing all the sins of the world and all the transgressions of mankind, and voluntarily was nailed to the cross.
Immanuel is merciful.
The Father embodies authority and divinity, while the Son embodies mercy and humanity.
He created and destroyed the world, and He redeemed the world.
Even if we don't regard Immanuel as a god or a holy son, but simply as a human being, his words and deeds are still exemplary, and he was a very good person.
Whether as a human being or as a god, Emmanuel stood almost at the pinnacle of morality, and anyone who knew him would not call him hypocritical.
This is the difference between Emmanuel and Him, the difference between the Son and the Father; He is the one of sacrifice and redemption.
If we limit our focus to Emmanuel, who is the most authoritative and sacred, and who can prove that he is the Son of God, which miracle is it?
Without a doubt, he voluntarily sacrificed himself to carry the cross, and was resurrected after death.
In Matthew 28:18, the resurrected Immanuel said to his believers: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
This statement proves that before this, Emmanuel existed more as the "Son of Man" than the "Son of God."
He existed in heaven before his birth and was one with the Trinity. But as the "Son of Man," he only slightly exercised his power and performed a few minor miracles.
This confirms what Emmanuel just said: Just because something can be done doesn't mean it has to be done.
Only after he bore the cross, suffered, made the greatest self-sacrifice, achieved complete redemption, and was resurrected did he become the true "Son of God," summoning believers, leaving prophecies, and then going to the Kingdom of Heaven.
This point has been adopted by many cultural and entertainment works.
For example, there's Constantine, who sacrifices himself at the end of the movie "Hellblazer," or Superman, who is known as a god among men; the latter is practically a complete replica of Emmanuel.
Ah, I understand now, I understand now!
