Chapter 76 Newt Scamander
Chapter 76 Newt Scamander
It seems there was some disagreement over the distribution of the fire dragons, so Garrick Ollivander had to change his original plan and stay in the reserve for three whole days, with Siron naturally following along.
However, with Charlie as their responsible guide, Xilun hasn't been bored these past few days, and they've visited quite a few interesting places.
There was one thing, though: he always felt that Charlie seemed a bit off.
Is a dragon keeper that free? I have time to spend three days playing with him in the neighborhood.
Moreover, every time Celen wanted him to go about his own business and told him not to worry about him, Charlie would inexplicably become nervous.
It seems he really didn't want Xilen to act alone.
Although Charlie explained that he was afraid that Celen would be in danger, this explanation could only fool Neville.
Putting aside the power of the protected area itself, Dumbledore is here right now. When Alistair said those words to Garrick, Sirius was right there and heard everything.
In addition, there were more than a dozen old wizards, including Newt Scamander. With this lineup, even if Voldemort were to resurrect on the spot, he would have to wait until the party was over before daring to come out and resume his old ways.
Xilun even felt that the roars of the fire dragons coming from the reserve had become much quieter in the past two days.
Siren had reason to suspect that Charlie was lying, but he couldn't quite put his finger on why. It couldn't be that he was worried that Charlie was after the dragon.
But that shouldn't be the case.
His grandfather had a good working relationship with the Dragon Sanctuary for decades and had a good reputation. He himself was a second-year student at Hogwarts... no, before the start of the school year, he wasn't even a second-year student, he was still a first-year student, and he wasn't even as tall as a dragon's leg when he stood there.
Even if Charlie is suspicious, it's unlikely he would be wary of him.
Since Xilun couldn't figure it out, he simply stopped thinking about it. Anyway, his purpose for this trip wasn't the fire dragon, so he figured Charles could just follow along.
Moreover, after learning that Sherren was also a Gryffindor, Charlie became noticeably more talkative, telling him a lot about Hogwarts in addition to introducing the protected area.
For example, the hidden entrances to several secret passages, Filch's night patrol rules, the location of the Hogwarts kitchens... the way he spoke made it seem as if he was certain that Sheryl would break the school rules.
It's full of stereotypes.
However, since he had already said so, in order not to waste it, Xilun could only silently write down a lot of useful information.
It wasn't until noon on the third day that Xilun finally saw his grandfather again.
There were two other people of similar age standing with Garrick.
The one with the silver-white beard must be Dumbledore. The other person looked a bit socially awkward, standing about half a step behind Dumbledore, his tall, thin figure slightly hunched, as if trying to hide himself in that slightly oversized brown-yellow robe.
Even from a great distance, Siren could hear Dumbledore's sigh.
"One thing after another, we still haven't found the new professor, and those pesky rats are back. Newt, are your reports accurate?"
"Yes, she's an old friend of Tina's. She said several people disappeared from South America, but she didn't say whether they came to England," said the man in the brown robe.
"There shouldn't be any mistake," Dumbledore said. "What happened half a month ago seems to have given them hope. Those souls who are still drowning in darkness have never stopped searching for a way to bring him back to life, and they yearn to regain their former status and glory."
"Wait, Albus," Garrick frowned, "weren't all those fanatical Death Eaters imprisoned in Azkaban?"
"There are too few Aurors; some will inevitably slip through the net." Dumbledore tapped the back of his hand lightly with his long fingers. "Besides, the team Tom used to persuade the giants mysteriously disappeared after his downfall, and the Death Eaters he sent to find Salazar's Wand weren't even in England at the time..."
"That bone wand crafted by Salazar Slytherin himself?" Garrick asked, intrigued. "Isn't it in Iphamonny?"
"So they still haven't found it..." Dumbledore shook his head, not continuing, and instead looked to the side. "Long time no see, Mr. Ollivander. How was your holiday?"
"Great," said Siren, who had just walked over.
"That's a delightful answer," Dumbledore said with a smile. "Let me introduce you to Mr. Newt Scamander, the author of the essential first-year book, *Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them*."
Is he Newt Scamander?
Xilun looked at the other person curiously.
Newt instinctively looked away, and after a while, he nodded to Siron with a slightly restrained expression.
He's a real social phobic!
Dumbledore, as if he hadn't noticed Garrick's awkwardness, looked up and winked at him.
Garrick understood immediately.
"By the way, half of the unicorn tail hair I use to make wands was provided by Newt... Speaking of which, I really should thank you."
Newt pursed his lips tightly, almost shrinking into his clothes, but upon hearing Garrick's words, he had no choice but to bite the bullet and say, "No, no... it's just routine grooming... just some loose tail hair..."
"You're probably the only one who could say that," Garrick clicked his tongue, feeling unwittingly outmaneuvered by Newt.
He spent half a year searching in the forests of Scandinavia, finally finding twelve unicorn tail hairs of sufficient length... but Newt described this number as just a routine grooming session.
"Oh, that's not necessarily true. Newt isn't the only one trusted by the unicorns," Dumbledore said, glancing at Shiron. "Isn't that right?"
"That's right." Sirens shrugged. "The unicorn tail hair I use when making normal wands is provided by Hagrid."
Something feels off. Why did he say "normal wand"?
Xilun scratched his head.
Fortunately, no one else noticed anything amiss with that statement, and by then Dumbledore was already preparing to leave.
Newt looked like he had breathed a huge sigh of relief, and finally emerged a little from his clothes.
"Garrick, if anything unusual happens in Diagon Alley, remember to write to me," Dumbledore added.
"I'll keep an eye out if they dare come to Diagon Alley," Garrick said.
Dumbledore nodded, then vanished like a wisp of mist blown away by the wind, taking Newt with him.
"We should head back too," Garrick said, taking out a branch and handing one end to Celen. "The key Alistair gave us is set to activate at five o'clock. We have three minutes left."
It was indeed the key to the door; Xilun grasped the other end of the branch.
"Wait a minute, Mr. Siren, Mr. Ollivander."
Charlie ran over from a short distance and handed the two boxes to Xiren.
"The gift I promised you," he said. "Could you please pass the other one on to Ron? The Owl Post Office here is too expensive."
"Just for Ron?" Siren asked.
"Consider it compensation, because he didn't get to use the new wand because of me," Charlie said.
"You have three other brothers at Hogwarts, oh right, and a sister will be added this year."
"I just spent my last nut two minutes ago," Charlie shrugged. "As for the others, I'll bring them some next time I go home."
"Alright, I'll try to give it to Ron alone, without letting them know."
"Phew, that's exactly what I wanted to say."
The key to the door began to vibrate slightly. Celen quickly stuffed the box into his pocket, not forgetting to tell Charlie, "Actually, Ron already has a new wand, and it's my creation."
