Chapter 1: If you want to get rich, cut down trees first!
"Why were you exiled here? Let me tell you about myself first. I am a mechanical nun from the Royal Capital's Mechanical Church. While I was tinkering with new things, a rainbow-colored magical sheep that could change color entered my workshop, so I sold it. Later, I discovered that it was the Little Prince's pet."
On a carriage heading to the harsh northern lands, a short-haired girl wearing light blue overalls and heavy leather gloves looked curiously at the unfortunate man sitting next to her, who shared the same fate, and asked him a question.
"Huh? Are we being exiled? The king told me that I was sent here to build a new territory, that it would be my fiefdom from now on." Thorne looked back at the girl beside him with a bewildered expression and said with some surprise.
"Besides giving you a piece of paper and exiling you together, and assigning me to be your henchman, what else did they give you? Serfs, tools, machinery, houses, seeds, or anything like that?" After hearing Thorne's answer, the girl's mind went blank for a moment, then she continued after thinking for a while.
Thorne pondered for a moment, then shook his head. His long hair swayed and bounced with the movement as he looked at the clouds in the sky with a disappointed expression.
"So this counts as exile? I thought they had just forgotten and I was planning to write to them to ask for it after I got there."
"Heh...heh heh, you're quite humorous. So, can you answer my question now? How exactly were you exiled here?"
Alex looked at the oblivious man in front of her and instinctively wanted to mock him, calling him a "small fry" or something. However, remembering that this man was her future boss, she reluctantly swallowed the trash talk that was on her mind.
Thorne looked up at the sky and pondered for a moment: "It's probably a task assigned to me by the Alchemy Guild, to upgrade the castle gates to redstone piston gates. You don't need to ask what redstone is. Anyway, because of my laziness and lack of personal involvement, my apprentice mistakenly placed the pistons and redstone wiring, and when the king pulled the lever, the pistons pushed open the walls on both sides."
After he finished speaking, he sighed somewhat helplessly. So, was the king's strange look at him back then not because he saw him as a promising talent and wanted to promote him...?
Thinking of this, Thorne sighed helplessly again: "I heard that the royal family of the Kingdom of Tyran is of military nobility. I thought they would see something in their exceptional talent for siege warfare."
"So it was you who did that good deed the other day. Thinking about it, you must have a lot of connections in the capital. You weren't beheaded right away." Alex opened her mouth, unsure of what to say, and finally managed to utter this sentence.
Soon it was evening, and the coachman responsible for transporting them quickly unloaded them from the carriage.
After the two jumped out of the car, Alex subconsciously turned her head to look at Thorne, only to see his chest. Looking up blankly, she murmured, "How tall are you?"
"Two meters exactly." Thorne shrugged indifferently and began to survey the territory that nominally belonged to him.
With plains beneath her feet, a river in front of her, and a forest behind her, it looked quite nice at first glance. If you ignored the ruins of what appeared to be houses on the riverbank not far away, Alex thought it would be a great place to retire and relax.
In Thorne's view, those ruins were one of the essences of this place, saving him the trouble of going into the forest to chop down trees.
Although masturbation is a basic skill, it's very painful.
He immediately stepped forward, intending to find a few lucky houses to demolish, but with a strange sound, Thorne stopped his actions.
"What's wrong?" Alex asked. "If you tear down these houses, I can use the scraps to build a simple waterwheel, which is our only power source at the start."
Thorne turned to Alex and shook his head: "I'd better go to the forest and cut down trees; this is their house."
"Someone's there?" Alex said, walking towards the dilapidated houses. Sure enough, she saw a dozen or so ragged figures scattered around.
She suddenly remembered something and quickly grabbed Thorne, who was about to walk towards the woods: "Didn't that old bastard King give you something again? Your territory's official document?"
Thorne took out a fine piece of parchment from his pocket and handed it over: "If you want to change your name, remember to go back to the capital and change the name of that document in the palace archives when you have the chance."
"Unfortunately, all I need is legitimate labor. I have no interest in this territory... well... I just want to inform your people that they have an obligation to give up their houses."
"I don't think it's necessary. Cutting down trees isn't like we can't get wood." Thorne said this as if he were discussing it, but his tone left no room for negotiation.
"Okay, okay, they're so lucky to have you~"
Alex gave a troubled and embarrassed smile as she took the parchment and walked toward the few scattered, ragged villagers, intending to announce to them the new master of the land and their obligation to work for him.
After much persuasion and intimidation, Alex successfully turned those people from ordinary villagers into Thorne's subjects, and even found the axe that Thorne had hidden in one of the subjects' homes.
She picked up the axe, stood up, and looked around. Thorne was about to chop down a tree, and this would come in handy for him. However, after looking around, she couldn't find Thorne anywhere.
She subconsciously looked towards the woods and saw a two-meter-tall figure standing in front of a giant tree as thick as two people's waists, repeatedly punching the tree trunk.
"Is this guy really from the Royal Alchemy Society? His brain circuits seem more like those of the Knights of Faith." Alex murmured as she walked toward Thorne and handed him the axe.
However, before she could take her first step, there was a loud thud, and the giant tree, as thick as two people's waists, collapsed under Thorne's punch.
As Alex stared in disbelief and swallowed hard, Thorne, standing at the edge of the woods, knocked out another tree with a punch.
Carrying an axe, she watched as Thorne, carrying a tree thicker than a water vat and taller than a mast on each shoulder, strode back with incredible speed.
"Were you lying to me in the carriage before? Are you really from the Alchemy Association? If you tell the truth now, we're still brothers, so you're from the Knights, right? With physical abilities like that, you were exiled, and you slept with the Queen?"
Alex was numb, and while talking, she went up to help Thorne take a section of the big tree.
Seeing Alex's expression, Thorne wholeheartedly agreed, praising his teammate's good judgment. He instinctively handed her one of the large trees over his shoulder, adding, "If we're really going to talk about it, shouldn't we be considered siblings?"
"I've cut my hair short and am wearing these clothes, how come anyone can tell I'm a woman?" Alex muttered, and then with a thud, the poor mechanical nun was crushed by the big tree and barely had time to breathe.
"Huh? You're such a weakling, yet you're helping out?" Thorne quickly put down the other big tree on his shoulder and gently tapped the wooden stake pressing against Alex's chest with his finger.
The next moment, the log crackled and popped into four standard one-meter cubes of wood.
Despite its increased size, the lighter weight allowed Alex to manage to pull herself out of the pile of planks with great difficulty.
"Your emotional intelligence is pretty low, but this move of yours... is quite impressive. I admit you're an alchemist, but while every alchemist has two signature skills, those skills are all pretty much the same. I've never seen anything like yours before."
Alex struggled to her feet from the wooden planks, looking at Thorne and the planks beneath her with astonishment as she watched the wooden stake turn into planks with just a casual tap from Thorne.
