Chapter 16: Worth It
Chapter 16: Worth It
Sam ran in the direction Spider-Man pointed.
Just as the other party had said, there was no danger along the way. Although I was a staff member of this hospital, I was definitely more familiar with the location than outsiders.
But then this person who just saved your life stands in front of you, speaking to you kindly and giving you directions.
No matter what they said, Sam chose to believe them.
After running for a while, he came across a group of fully armed police officers.
"Thank goodness, you've come!"
Sam saw hope again; as soon as he stepped forward, he was met by professionals.
"How are you?"
"Thanks to Spider-Man, I'm okay."
George, who was leading the group, stopped walking and turned to walk towards the medical worker.
"Describe to me what's inside, and what Spider-Man is doing."
"Oh, no problem." Sam noticed the other man's epaulets. "He just saved my life, and now he seems to be dealing with the other people who have turned into lizard monsters."
"Seems like?" George seized on the word.
"Yes," Sam said. "I saw him take out a syringe and inject it into Ray... Ray is a friend of mine, he was here..."
Get to the point.
"Sorry... Anyway, Spider-Man used that syringe to inject Rey, and shortly afterward, the monstrous features on Rey's body began to fade. I guess this must be some kind of antidote..."
George nodded, then waved to the liaison, signaling to take the guy to safety.
After the brief incident, the team continued on their way.
The young officer standing next to George overheard the conversation and kept glancing at his superior.
"What's wrong?"
The experienced George naturally noticed this gaze.
"It's just..." the young police officer stammered.
George stopped and gestured for the rest of the officers to continue, leaving him and the young officer behind.
"Are you afraid I'll think this riot was caused by Spider-Man?"
"...right."
George silently observed his subordinate for a moment, then asked, "Do you know what you're wearing?"
The young officer understood his superior's meaning, and he wanted to explain further:
"I understand, Officer Stacy," he said. "But I think there must be some misunderstanding. Spider-Man isn't as bad as you think."
George was actually very angry about his subordinate's blatant disrespect.
They are responsible for maintaining order in the city, and Spider-Man's appearance is actually a provocation to them.
What right does someone who is not subject to the law have to maintain order in the city?
The public can be said to be the ones who supervise them, but who supervises Spider-Man?
Does it also rely on the citizens?
Is the other party guaranteed to agree?
"You'd better give me a plausible explanation, or I can send you home to be with your kids right now," George said.
"Thank you, sir."
The young officer said, "I know what Spider-Man means to us, but I want you to trust him this once."
"..."
"Just a week ago, he saved my wife and daughter's lives."
George recalled the time, "The fire that happened on Second Street?"
"right."
George sighed, put his arm around the young officer's shoulder, and then followed him to catch up with the squad ahead.
"You heard what that guy said, right? Spider-Man took out a vial of some kind of reagent and injected it into the monster..."
"I know you are grateful for his previous actions. If my family had been saved by him, I would also be grateful to him."
"But Johnny, let me tell you, these are two different things."
"Why does he have medical skills? What caused this riot? I believe you know he is inextricably linked to this riot."
"So put aside your goodwill toward him and think about why, instead of telling me to let go of my prejudices against him."
"We are police officers, don't forget that."
......
......
......
"The seventh one!"
Spider-Man stuck to the back of a lizard monster, stuck a needle into it, and then kicked it, sending its entire body crashing into the wall.
puff-
A large section of spider silk completely enveloped the lizard monster.
"This is more tiring than I imagined..."
Spider-Man, panting heavily, rested his hands on his knees.
"This doesn't match what you said earlier. You said you wanted to solve it all at once, but you're still solving it one by one," Oz asked.
Peter, who was hiding behind the mask, blushed instantly upon hearing Oz's words.
He explained, "That's what I thought, but the piece of equipment in the lab is too big to bring!"
"So, ideals are lofty, but reality is harsh?"
"That's right!"
Oz scoffed, "You're just not thinking straight."
"You don't need to worry about it!"
Spider-Man was a little annoyed. He had thought that Oz would help him solve the problem during this time, but he just sat on his shoulders the whole time and remained unmoved.
He was supposed to be my assistant, so why is he doing everything by himself when it comes to actually getting things done?!
Oz suddenly glanced back.
Spider-Man noticed his movement and asked, "What's wrong?"
Oz sensed the footsteps of George and his group.
The masked vigilantes and public police have always been a popular topic. One side believes they are doing good deeds and should not be subject to such restrictions, while the other side believes the other is simply causing trouble. "What are we supposed to do if you do this? Eat donuts?"
Spider-Man hasn't quite reached the point of becoming close with the police yet; he's still in his early stages, even though he's witnessed Peter's actions during this time.
But for others to fully understand Spider-Man's attitude towards the city, a major event is still needed.
Like this lizard serum incident.
Oz cautioned, "You need to hurry, the police are almost here."
"I know."
Spider-Man covered his head and muttered, "I'm clearly doing a good deed, so why do they always think I'm a threat to society?"
Oz tilted his head and looked at him strangely.
"You mean, shortly after the riots broke out, you appeared in their sight with the antidote, dealt with these infected people, and instead of suspecting anything amiss, they even gave you a commendation?"
Spider-Man was speechless when Oz confronted him, because the truth was indeed as he said.
"I never imagined things would turn out this way. Harry's father is dying, the treatment is a cross-species genetic formula, but the formula malfunctioned, Dr. Connors disappeared, and then the human experiments were carried out so hastily..."
"I am more confused than all of them."
After expressing his thoughts, Spider-Man shot out his webs and continued his healing work.
......
"The eleventh!"
Spider-Man was slammed into the wall by the lizard monster, but in doing so, he managed to insert the serum into the monster's body.
......
"The thirteenth, the fourteenth!"
Spider-Man noticed that both his front and back paths were blocked by the lizard monster, so he used both wrists to shoot out a web, sticking them together, and made a very bold decision.
That means dragging both lizard monsters to me and dealing with them together!
The outcome was positive; both lizard monsters were healed, but they themselves were injured in the process.
Two lizard tails lashed at him, making him feel like his body was about to fall apart.
......
"The last one... please, buddy, your saliva almost dripped into my mask..."
Spider-Man lay on the ground, his hands desperately trying to hold back the lizard monster as it tried to devour his head.
A fresh, red tongue slid back and forth on his spider head, sticky and viscous.
Finally, he used his head to smash it down, resulting in a simple head-to-head collision with his opponent.
Perhaps it was because his head was too hard, or perhaps it was because the lizard serum was starting to degrade, but the other person was momentarily confused.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Spider-Man delivered the final injection, successfully defeating the last mutated lizard monster.
"I just washed my uniform two days ago, and after this lick, I have to wash it again..."
Spider-Man lay sprawled on the ground.
He was really tired.
This was the most tiring time he had ever experienced since becoming Spider-Man.
but......
"Get up, they're almost here," Oz's voice rang in my ears.
Spider-Man flipped over and struggled to his feet.
"I know."
Looking at all the patients he had treated.
Peter couldn't help but laugh out loud from under the mask.
"What are you laughing at? You only have ten seconds left!"
"It's okay, five seconds is enough."
puff-
The way the spider silk was launched from the launcher was beautiful, like a small, delicate hand carrying him away from here.
very tired.
But it's worth it.
