Chapter 34 The Evil Bone Knife
Chapter 34 The Evil Bone Knife
The air was filled with a strong, suffocating odor.
It was the putrid smell of fresh and dried blood mixed with the pungent odor of melting candles, which lingered in the nasal cavity, making one's throat tighten and stomach churn.
Yu Jing raised his hand to tighten the mask around his neck, his gaze falling on the open space in front of him.
This is clearly a terrifying ritual site!
Looking around, the first thing Yu Jing saw was the gray stone coffin located in the center of the ceremony area.
Its surface is covered with bizarre reliefs and obscure inscriptions, and it also bears a large amount of dried blackish-red bloodstains and what appears to be crushed flesh and hair that were then splashed on it.
The stone coffin was supported by a three-tiered altar.
Each floor was filled with strangely shaped corpses, surrounded by white candles burning with eerie blue flames.
If you look closely, you'll find that all of these corpses originated from the twisted creatures that Yu Jing had just seen on those scrolls. They were kneeling and facing the stone coffin, as if they were guarding something inside.
Unlike the skeleton soldiers who were just skeletons, the corpses of these monsters retained most of their flesh, but they were all shriveled and emaciated, with a lot of sutures and runes on their bodies, making them look like stitched monsters that had been cut up and pieced together.
At the base of the altar, the floor of the library is engraved with a huge blood-red magic circle.
The jagged lines are filled with dark red, evil incantations, as if written in blood.
As the eerie blue candlelight flickered on the altar, the incantations seemed to flow slowly, and a faint, low chant echoed in the air. The sound did not come from the living, but rather from the whispers of the vengeful spirits among the corpses, mixed with faint hissing and sighs.
Behind the altar is a thick stone wall on one side of the library. Directly opposite the altar is an iron gate that is much larger than any we have seen before. In front of the gate are a large number of monster skulls, which is very likely the "BOSS" room where the heavily armored skeletons are located.
Of course, now is not the time to think about the final boss.
The altar before us is clearly the source of all the strange phenomena in the library.
In order to rescue the rest of the team, Yu Jing had no choice but to temporarily take on the role of a tomb raider...
Then he took out five grenades from his backpack, stepped back a few paces, pulled the pin, and threw them directly.
The setup of the ceremony venue was terrifying to look at, and even with the Crystal of Resentment in his heart, he couldn't possibly be foolish enough to walk in.
Who knows if the monster corpses kneeling on the altar will suddenly turn into skeletons and launch a surprise attack on him? The other team members are nowhere to be found right now. If he gets surrounded and killed here, he won't even have anyone to help him.
Isn't the expensive weaponry bought in the Cage Zone meant for use in situations like this?
Previously, in other rooms, the limited field of vision made it difficult to determine the direction from which the skeleton soldiers were charging. Even when they were seen, they couldn't use the skill because they were too close and might hurt their teammates. But now, there are not so many concerns.
Compared to risking one's own life, gunpowder and metal fragments are undoubtedly a more suitable choice.
Yu Jing bought a total of 10 grenades and threw half of them away immediately, with an immediate effect.
boom!
Amidst towering flames, the altar was completely destroyed from top to bottom.
Fragments of the monster's corpse and candles flew everywhere, and the sarcophagus, which had received special attention, was blasted open with several cracks.
It was at this moment that Yu Jing keenly noticed that dark currents began to emerge from the surface of the altar, and the corpses lying all over the ground trembled incessantly, but they were all blown apart and could not be pieced back together.
As it turned out, Yu Jing's caution was correct.
The person who set up this altar did indeed have a backup plan.
Under normal circumstances, the labyrinthine bookshelves and the illusions that erode sanity in the library alone would be enough to keep intruders busy. Even if they were lucky enough to get here, as soon as they dared to approach the altar, they would immediately trigger a trap and be besieged by the corpses of those monsters.
Who would have thought they'd run into Yu Jing, a guy who has no sense of martial ethics?
Without saying a word, he used a grenade to clear a path, completely disrupting his carefully laid plans.
While the alien environment can suppress electronic devices, it cannot reduce the damage suffered by the slightest when facing such a purely physical attack.
As the smoke and dust from the explosion gradually dissipated, Yu Jing discovered that viscous blood was slowly seeping from the cracks in the stone coffin at the top of the altar, attempting to repair the damaged area. The magic array at the bottom of the altar was also emitting a faint light.
The body parts seemed to be drawn by some force, with the sutures on their surfaces extending outwards, attempting to connect with other fragments, as if trying to piece them back together.
Yu Jing would never give them a chance to make a comeback.
Knowing that the stone coffin was the source, he decisively threw down his backpack, grabbed a grenade in each hand, bit off the pins, and threw them toward the stone coffin. At the same time, he also began to move.
The second explosion temporarily halted the stone coffin's self-repair process, forcing the viscous blood to transform into a blood mist barrier to withstand the impact.
At the same time, Yu Jing finally stepped into the magic array at the bottom of the altar.
Despite being mentally prepared, Yu Jing still underestimated the power of the altar array when he actually stepped inside.
They had only taken a few steps inside when a series of whispered murmurs reached their ears, and bizarre hallucinations appeared before their eyes.
Countless twisted black shadows danced wildly around the altar, blood gushed from the cracks in the stone, turning into waves that threatened to engulf him completely, while the corpses seemed to be given life by the blood tide, baring their fangs and claws as they pounced on him.
These are all hallucinations created by the altar; they are all fake!
I kept giving myself positive self-talk.
Despite feeling a chill run down his spine, Yu Jing did not retreat even a single step.
He's never one to back down in the face of battle. Once he's made up his mind, there's nothing to be afraid of; just charge in!
With the remaining three grenades kept as spares, Yu Jing raised his machete and charged headlong into the tide of blood. His heart pounded faster and faster as he did so, and he didn't even realize that he was moving faster and faster. Half a canine tooth was quietly protruding from the corner of his lips under his mask.
That is the outward manifestation of the full activation of the animalistic factor.
Yu Jing focused solely on moving forward. At this moment, the Crystal of Resentment once again took effect, enveloping his body in a layer of dark purple light, allowing him to cut through the waves of blood and open a narrow passage leading directly to the stone coffin at the top of the altar.
Overcoming numerous bizarre illusions, Yu Jing rushed to the top of the altar in three quick steps. He leaped up and kicked the side of the stone coffin, knocking aside the lid that had just been cracked open by several grenades.
He raised his revolver and looked into the inside of the sarcophagus.
He saw a female mummy lying flat inside.
His face was covered by a black jade mask that only covered the upper half of his face, while the exposed lower half of his face was withered and shriveled.
She was dressed in a badly decayed gauze dress, and there were stitches on the pale skin of her neck and limbs, indicating that she had been pieced together after death. What really caught Yu Jing's attention were her hands folded over her abdomen.
A sinister bone knife, seemingly carved from the bone of some kind of creature, lay inside.
