Chapter 12 Why is this dragon so dog-like?
Chapter 12 Why is this dragon so dog-like?
"Hey! You big lizard!"
Ellie's shrill voice echoed through the empty valley, "The brave Ellie is here! Prepare to die!"
The Red Mirror Dragon opened its eyes, and in its vertical pupils was reflected the tiny human figure of Ellie.
It slowly stood up and stretched its huge wings.
Roar--
With a roar, a shockwave exploded outwards.
Ellie was blown back two steps by the blast wave and almost sat on the ground.
But she still stopped, raised the rusty sword with both hands, and assumed a rather unorthodox starting stance.
"bring it on!"
Ellie's gaze was sharp as a knife, ready to meet either flames or claws.
The Crimson Mirror Dragon opened its mouth wide, and a red light shone from deep within its throat—a sign of the impending dragon's breath.
Just then, Lynn emerged from behind the boulder, placed his hands on the hilt of his sword, and quietly watched the dragon.
The Crimson Mirror Dragon's gaze passed over Ellie and landed on Lynn. Its massive body suddenly stiffened, and the red light in its throat went out.
His pupils suddenly contracted sharply!
Then it saw Kraft.
The elven monk stood with his arms crossed, staring at it expressionlessly.
The Red Mirror Dragon's legs began to tremble, it quickly tucked its wings in, and its huge head lay directly on the snow.
"Woof."
A jarring cry, tinged with submission, escaped from the dragon's mouth.
Ellie was stunned.
That arrogant red mirror dragon was lying on the ground like a dog, its tail even wagging obsequiously twice.
Then, the dragon turned around, flapped its wings wildly, and soared into the sky with a gust of wind, flying towards the horizon without looking back.
It moved so fast that it seemed as if death was chasing it, and in the blink of an eye it became a tiny black dot.
The valley instantly fell silent, with only the wind rustling the stones.
"They...they ran away?"
Ellie stood frozen in place, sword in hand. "I...scared it away?"
Lynn walked up to her and smiled, "It seems so."
"It was intimidated by your imposing presence."
Kraft suppressed a laugh and began to spout nonsense with a straight face.
"Really?"
Ellie turned around, her expression shifting from blank to ecstatic.
"I knew it! I really do have the potential to be a hero!"
"Lord Simmel is watching from heaven!"
"I, Ellie, single-handedly scared off the Red Mirror Dragon today!"
She rushed over, grabbed Lynn's arm, and then tugged at Kraft's sleeve.
"Did you see that?! That big guy was so scared he barked like a dog!"
"I saw it."
Lynn pulled her arm away. "Now that the task is complete, let's go back."
"etc!"
Ellie stopped the two of them, cleared her throat, and put on a serious expression.
"Now that you have witnessed my strength, I formally invite you to join my adventure team!"
"That dragon flew north; it must have fled back to its lair."
"We must press our advantage and wipe them out completely!"
After saying that, the girl waved the rusty sword in her hand.
"That's also the direction to Tours."
Lynn glanced at the map.
"How about it? Following me has a bright future!"
Ellie patted Lynn on the shoulder, "From now on, as this hero's reputation spreads far and wide, you two, as my right-hand men, will definitely be very popular!"
Kraft looked at Lynn and asked, "What do you think?"
"It's on my way."
Lynn started walking. "Let's go together then."
"marvelous!"
Ellie cheered, sheathing her rusty sword at her waist. "Let's go! Our target: the Red Mirror Dragon's lair! Let our names resound throughout the entire northern plateau!"
sunset.
The three figures stretched out very long.
The one in the middle was hopping around, humming an off-key tune.
Two people walked leisurely beside them.
"Are you sure you want to bring her along?"
Kraft lowered his voice.
"It's quite lively."
Lynn said with a smile.
"That's true."
Kraft smiled. "It's better than two grown men staring at each other."
Back in the village, the village chief heard that the dragon had run away and was so moved that tears streamed down his face.
Although he didn't believe that his granddaughter had scared him away, the outcome was good.
Ellie began packing her bags, which consisted of just a few changes of clothes, the rusty sword, and a well-worn copy of "The Legend of the Hero Simmel".
……
"Grandpa, I'm leaving!"
At the village entrance, Ai Lili, carrying a backpack bigger than herself, waved to the village chief.
"Don't cause trouble outside!"
The village chief wiped away his tears, "If you can't make it here, come back! We still have a few acres of land!"
"Grandpa, don't worry! I will definitely return home in glory!"
Ellie turned around and strode ahead, "Men! Keep up!"
"Yes, yes, Captain."
Kraft responded lazily.
Lynn glanced back and saw the village chief still standing there, hunched over.
This is how the adventure begins, without any sacred ceremony or grand vows.
In the wind and snow, the three figures gradually disappeared into the distance.
Ellie's voice still drifted in the wind.
"Next stop, Cécile! Then Tours! We're going to eat their most famous barbecue!"
"Also, I'm going to buy a real sword!"
"The same product used by Lady Simmel!"
Lynn and Kraft exchanged a glance and both smiled.
This trip is unlikely to be boring.
……
After traveling by carriage for two days, Lynn and his companions arrived in Cecily.
Sisi is a fortified city.
The towering city walls were covered with catapults and crossbows, and black flags fluttered in the wind.
A long queue formed at the city gate, where guards were checking each person one by one.
"Name, occupation, purpose of coming to the city."
The guard had a stern face, and the long sword in his hand gleamed coldly.
"Ellie! My profession is Hero! My goal is to wipe out the Demon King's army scattered throughout the land!"
Ellie held her head high and spoke so loudly that everyone around her turned to look.
The guard frowned and quickly scribbled a few words on the parchment: Unemployed.
"Hey! How can you be unemployed!"
Ellie protested, "I scared away the Red Mirror Dragon..."
"Next."
The guards ignored her completely and looked directly at Lynn behind them.
"Lynn, adventurer."
Lynn handed over two silver coins. "This is the city entrance tax."
The guard's expression softened somewhat; he accepted the money and waved for them to pass.
Once inside the city, the streets were lined with weapon shops and armor stores.
The sounds of hammering echoed throughout the room, and the air was filled with the smell of coal and rust.
"This is Cecilia!"
Like a curious child, Ellie looked around.
"So many weapons! That sword is so cool!"
Ellie was leaning over the window of a weapons shop, drooling.
"That's a mithril sword; you couldn't afford it even if you sold yourself."
Lynn ruthlessly shattered the girl's fantasy.
"Hmph, don't underestimate a young girl just because she's poor!"
Ellie straightened up. "Once I finish a few big commissions, I'll buy two of these swords! One to chop people up, and one to peel apples!"
"Let's find a place to stay first."
Kraft glanced at the sky and offered his suggestion.
"I've heard that the 'Hero's Inn' here is very famous."
Allie pulled out a crumpled little notebook. "It says that Lord Simmel used to live there!"
"Then let's go there."
Kraft also wanted to find a comfortable place to drink.
The Brave One Inn is located in the city center.
A sign stands at the entrance: The hero Simmel once rested here.
The hall was packed with people, mostly adventurers who had come because of its reputation.
"Boss! I need three rooms!"
Ellie slammed the money bag onto the counter.
The owner, a fat man, smiled and pocketed the money, gesturing for the three of you to come upstairs!
After settling their luggage, the three went downstairs to the tavern.
It was even more lively here than outside, with bards playing their harps and singing unknown songs in a corner.
Several drunken men were drinking contests, loudly boasting about their victories.
"Have you heard? A very important person has recently arrived in town."
A loud shout came from the next table, which was lowered in a low voice.
"Who's the important person?"
"My companion asked."
"The Hero of the South!"
Hearing the group's conversation, Lynn paused for a moment, his hand holding the wine glass still.
"Really?"
His companion looked on with suspicion, "The legendary Southern Hero who single-handedly defeated the Seven Sages? He's been dead for over a hundred years, where would a successor come from?"
"Absolutely true! That man's dual-wielding skills were phenomenal! A few days ago in the forest outside the city, he single-handedly wiped out a group of ogres!"
The big man spoke vividly and eloquently.
"That amazing?"
"That's right! Even the city lord treats him as an honored guest now!"
Ellie listened intently, then immediately moved closer to Lynn, staring at the sword at his waist.
"Lynn, you also use dual swords? You wouldn't happen to be that successor of something, would you?"
"The real protagonist of the story is over there."
Lynn took a sip of his drink and tilted his chin up.
A commotion broke out at the tavern entrance.
The crowd parted automatically to make way, and a man dressed in magnificent armor walked in.
With blond hair and blue eyes, he was handsome, with two jewel-encrusted longswords hanging at his waist, and several obsequious followers behind him.
"That's Leo, the successor of the Southern Hero!"
Someone exclaimed in surprise.
Leo waved to the surroundings with a reserved smile on his face.
"So handsome..."
Ellie's eyes turned into hearts. "Such a powerful presence!"
Leo walked to a table in the center and sat down. Immediately, a maid brought him the finest wine.
"Lord Leo, I heard you're going to form a task force to clear out the ruins north of Ceci City?"
A young swordsman approached and asked.
"That's right."
Leo raised his glass with an elegant gesture. "An ancient monster dwells in that ruin. For Ceci's safety, it is my duty."
"Truly worthy of being the successor of a hero!"
The crowd cheered.
"I want to go too!"
Ellie jumped to her feet.
"sit down."
Lynn pressed down on her shoulder.
"What are you doing! This is a great opportunity to meet someone powerful!"
Ellie struggled.
"That site might be dangerous."
"Lynn said in a deep voice."
"We should only go if it's dangerous!"
Ellie wouldn't listen to any advice. "If it were the hero Simmel, I would definitely go!"
After saying that, she shook off Lynn's hand, squeezed through the crowd, and ran to Leo. "Lord Leo! I'm Ellie! I want to join the extermination team too!"
Leo looked up, glanced at her, and smiled:
"Little sister, that place is very dangerous."
However, since you're so keen on it, then go ahead and join me.
"Very good!"
Allie blushed with excitement and ran back to Lynn and Kraft, looking triumphantly at them. "She agreed! Are you going or not? If not, I'll go by myself!"
Kraft sighed and looked at Lynn. "What should we do?"
Lynn finished his drink, stood up, straightened his collar, and said, "If it were the Southern Hero, they certainly wouldn't let this go unchecked."
