Chapter 14 Encountering the Enemy

The group of nine moved through the dense jungle like ghosts, their feet covered in mud and water, which was enveloped in chakra, making no sound.

Fugaku Uchiha took the lead, followed closely by Minato Namikaze and Tetsu Nishikawa, with Hiroshi Hyuga providing support from the center, while the five newly joined Chunin were responsible for covering the rear and providing flank cover.

Although the march was quiet, the atmosphere within the group was subtly heavy.

"Hey, I said..."

At the back of the group, a Chunin named Kaito, with a scar on his face, lowered his voice and whispered to his companion, "I can tolerate the Uchiha being the captain; after all, they're a powerful clan, their strength speaks for itself. "And that Minato Namikaze too, two newly graduated genin, I really don't know what the commander was thinking, actually calling him a brain and fangs."

The Chunin exchanged glances; though they didn't say anything explicitly, their dissatisfaction and contempt were obvious.

In their view, the battlefield is a place where strength speaks, and letting two immature kids occupy core positions is simply playing with their lives.

Fugaku Uchiha gave him a cold glance: "Did I tell you to speak?"

Kaito froze, staring at those three-tomoe Sharingan eyes, feeling as if his heart was being squeezed. Cold sweat instantly poured down his face, and he immediately shut his mouth.

Nishikawa Tetsuya seemed oblivious to the pressure around him. He took out his simple notebook and quickly did some calculations.

"A direct assault would be unwise. The Sand Village's puppeteers are skilled in using poison gas, and a head-on confrontation would slow us down. Moreover, if that Earth Release ninja escapes, Hanzo's main force will become alert."

Nishikawa Tetsu pointed to a low-lying swampy area ahead: "Hizen-senpai, are there large water veins flowing underground in that direction?"
