Chapter 38 The Viscount is Dead
Chapter 38 The Viscount is Dead
The force was much greater than he had imagined.
The kick landed on his forearm, first sending a sharp pain through him, then the immense force pushed him back several steps, landing right next to Charlotte.
Helena didn't give chase. Instead, she stood still, slowly retracting her leg and looking at the two of them with a provocative gaze.
"You two think you can stop me? At least send a Rank 7 armed detective!"
If Helena hadn't received the information confirming that Charlotte hadn't actually notified the armed detectives, she wouldn't have dared to act so openly, even if she had ten times the courage.
Now that the armed detectives are gone, she is invincible!
How could a mere renowned detective specializing in deduction and an armed detective who seemed to have only recently awakened his abilities possibly stop me?!
This is the confidence that comes with the witch's enhanced abilities!
Even without combat abilities, she possesses considerable fighting prowess, not to mention her previous declaration of crime, which significantly increases her chances of successfully committing a crime.
No matter how you look at it, she can't lose!
"That's outrageous," Li Ang muttered after regaining his balance.
He couldn't understand it at all. His clues clearly indicated that the other party didn't have any combat abilities, yet their strength was ridiculously high.
While abilities do indeed enhance physical strength to some extent, they can be divided into combat-type and non-combat-type abilities.
Only the former can make a power user as powerful as Superman; the latter can only slightly increase a power user's strength, not significantly.
Li Ang moved his numb forearm and looked at the woman in front of him in disbelief. She hadn't dared to retaliate even though he had teased her during the day, but at night she was like a completely different person.
You were so strong, why didn't you say so earlier? I definitely wouldn't have teased you back then!
He dared not be careless in the slightest and charged forward again with his sword.
This time, Li Ang learned his lesson and no longer confronted Helena head-on. Instead, he used the ability he had just mastered.
He appeared to be charging towards Helena with a black sword in hand, but halfway through, the sword suddenly lengthened, extending its blade to four feet and transforming into a slender katana.
Helena's eyes widened, clearly not expecting that the black dagger in Li Ang's hand could actually lengthen. She could only twist her body forcefully to barely avoid the attack.
Realizing that the blade had missed its mark, Li Ang did not sheathe his sword. Instead, with a thought, the black blade instantly shortened back to its original length. At the same time, he twisted his wrist, and the blade swept horizontally toward Helena's neck.
The transitions between morphological changes are so rapid that there are almost no gaps.
Helena had to roll awkwardly on the ground to narrowly avoid the fatal blow.
As she quickly stood up, Li Ang gave her no chance to catch her breath, and with a burst of strength, he charged forward again.
The black blade constantly changed shape in his hand, making it increasingly difficult for Helena to cope.
She was forced to retreat until she reached the doorway of the collection room.
When faced with Li Ang's attack again, Helena did not continue to dodge, but instead charged towards Li Ang's blade.
With a quick movement, he let the black knife graz his shoulder, leaving only a bloody mark, and at the same time, he punched Li Ang straight in the face.
Li Ang quickly withdrew his sword and used the blade to parry.
The opponent's fist slammed into the side of the black knife, producing a dull thud. A tremendous force traveled through the blade to his arm, making his hand go numb.
This gave the two a chance to separate and catch their breath.
"That's really strong." Li Ang shook his numb hand.
"Your knife... is troublesome." Helena glanced at the bloodstain on her shoulder, where a trickle of blood began to seep out.
I never expected this man to have such rich combat experience. Coupled with that black sword that can lengthen and shorten, he's really troublesome.
"Thank you for the compliment."
After a short rest, Li Ang rushed forward again.
The fight between the two gradually spread to the surrounding area, and several collectibles rolled off the shelves, landing on the carpet with a dull thud.
Then the door to the treasure room was kicked open, and the two rushed into the corridor one after the other.
The two fought from one end of the corridor to the other, and then fought back from the other side.
The fight caused quite a commotion, with shouts and hurried footsteps coming from downstairs, but no one dared to go upstairs to investigate.
Charlotte arrived at the door of the collection room, looked at the two figures locked in combat in the corridor, crossed her arms, and stood there like a spectator.
The black knife in Li Ang's hand looked even smoother to her than before, with almost no gaps between its forms, as if Li Ang had undergone professional armed detective training.
"Truly worthy of it..." she murmured, her voice drowned out by the sounds of fighting in the corridor.
Leon and Helena's figures flashed at the end of the corridor, turned a corner, and disappeared from Charlotte's sight.
The sounds of fighting faded into the distance, occasionally punctuated by a muffled thud, before gradually quieting down.
The corridor fell silent again.
Charlotte stood still and did not chase after him. After a while, Li Ang came out from around the corner of the corridor.
His clothes had several tears, and there was a gash on the web of his right hand, with blood flowing down the back of his hand. However, his steps seemed steady, as if he had only suffered a minor injury.
Charlotte looked at him and asked, "Ran away?"
"Hmm." Li Ang walked up to her. "Once we got outside, she suddenly sped up, and I couldn't keep up."
Charlotte didn't press for details, but simply nodded. "Then let's take a rest."
Li Ang casually found a place to sit down. "What's the deal with that guy? How strong is he...?" He hesitated, then stopped himself from speaking.
In Li Ang's view, Helena had no combat abilities whatsoever, yet she was able to fight him, a skilled combatant, to a standstill.
"It's the enhancement from the transformation," Charlotte explained. "The witch's body has been modified by life alchemy, making her strength several times that of an ordinary person, and even her speed and reaction time are enhanced."
"So, you mean pure power?"
"That's one way to put it," Charlotte nodded. "However, she's probably not a combat-type ability user. Otherwise, you wouldn't be a match for her."
Li Ang did not refute, but nodded in agreement.
At least the opponent was a Sequence 7 ability user. If he had combat abilities, he would probably have been killed in the first round with his mere Sequence 9 ability.
It's impossible to fight them for that long, let alone end up...
Just then, hurried footsteps came from the other end of the stairs. The two looked up and saw that it was the old butler.
"Miss Holmes! Mr. Moriarty, so you've been here."
The other person looked flustered, as if something terrible had happened.
"What is it?" Charlotte asked.
"His Excellency the Viscount... he's dead."
Under the corridor lights, the expressions of the people present were all different.
